We are applying for our first Active Flag! Keep up to date with all our Active News from around the school during the year!
Our roles as Active Committee members:
As committee members, we have a role within our school to encourage our friends to get active and to make sure everyone has fun whilst being active, in whatever way they can. We chose Athletics as the PE strand that we wanted to focus more on as a school. We felt that our school already had lots of practice with sports such as hurling, soccer and rugby, but that other children who do not like playing those sports, really liked playing athletics games that involve running, jumping, throwing and catching games. We incorporated these and other games into our lunchtime breaks by buying lots of different equipment for our Astroturf pitch so that everyone felt included and got active! Our Junior classes have slides and seesaws to play on and each lunchtime we organise activities for the Junior and Senior Infants. We play What time is it Mr. Wolf?, penalty shoot out, skipping, throw and catch games, and we even have a disco on Fridays!

April 2025: Active Schools week:
In April we organised an Active Schools week. Each day we had a set school-wide active activity, and then each class teacher swapped their daily lessons for active alternatives! With the help of Ms Carroll, we spent a whole day outside on our wonderful Astro-turf playing games and being active! We combined our activities with our Green Schools & Amber Flag committees, promoting environmental issues and mental wellbeing, all while being active! We walked to our local river, the River Deel, and learning all about water conservation as part of our Green Flag! While we walked we talked to our friends and made sure we had lots of opportunities to stop and take a moment to be mindful of our mental health for our Amber Flag. We took plenty of mindful movement breaks throughout each day during the week and we always danced our way through the last few minutes of each day!
Junior Infants have taken their learning outside with all the good weather and completed an active art lesson! They used paint brushes and containers of water to draw their creations on the tarmac! They made sure to leave in the containers in one spot, however this meant they had to act quick to run between their drawing and their container before the water dried up! A great activity to make the most of the sunshine!
